Windows 7 Repair CD
May 4th
Are you having trouble with Windows 7? Well, I am. I migrated my W7 installation to a new hard-drive using HDClone (There is a free version there!). The problem is, the new HDD is about three times as big and the bootloader can’t make it work. I get an error saying “Device not accessible”. It looks something like this:
I couldn’t find my W7 DVD so I could not repair it. After spending some time with Hiren’s BootCD, and failing completely to fix the MBR, and after booting up Mini XP and using CheckDisk, I gave up. I installed an old Windows XP that I had, thinking, “Oh, this might fix it” but no luck.

Ubuntu 10.04
May 1st
Sweet Ubuntu 10.04 finally came out a few days ago. And you would not believe the wonders I have experience since trying it out! You HAVE to try it out for yourself, I’m sure you’ll love it just as much I do.
That said, I have already downloaded the 64 bit edition and I am currently running it under virtualization. I encourage all of you to try this out. I have been rather busy the last few days and will be even more busy in the next few days but the earliest chance I get, I will write a series of reviews and tutorials on how to take advantage of the newest features of Ubuntu 10.04 as well as its brother Kubuntu 10.04 (which FINALLY came out at as a long term support edition!).
Well, here is a few things I am excited about: More >
PHP tricks: substr()
Apr 19th
I’ve decided to start a new section on DavePCGuy that deals entirely with PHP tips & tricks. What’s great about that is that I show you some of the lesser known/used PHP functions, PHP uses in new creative ways.
First up is substr(), a simple yet rarely used function that cuts up your string. You tell it where to cut, and the function cuts. Now, you’ll be thinking, why use this?
Let me fist show you how it works.

Some useful PHP functions
Apr 15th
Recently, I have noticed that I use the same exact functions over and over again in PHP. I’ve actually set-up a complete function list that I tend to include in all of my projects. Here is an overview of some of them.
Let’s connect
You will need to connect to your database from time to time. It is important to do that in most projects that deal with MySQL, and you’ll probably do it frequently, on every page. Now, you can either delete that “function CustomConnect” and the braces and simply include() this part as a file orrr, just add this to your function list and call it up whenever you need it:
Setting up Feedburner Feeds
Mar 26th
Have you ever wondered about that pretty subscriber counter most blogs have on their pages? How do they know exactly how many people are following them?
It’s called FeedBurner. I’ve been using it for a while now and it never occurred to me how much POWER such a service can have! Not only are you provided with statistics, but you can add ads to the feed, get a counter, update twitter automatically, and a whole spectrum of other features. More >
Just a little stupid Javascript App
Mar 21st
Remember how I promised I would learn Javascript so many times in the past? Well, I finally got around to learning some of the basics. And just like I did with PHP when I was learning it, I decided to create a simple application. I could not come up with a good idea so my friend suggested one and within a couple of hours I finished it.
Here is the demo. I received some positive feedback from a lot of people so I thought I’d show how I, first of all, made it and how it helped me learn Javascript.

New Blogs (and Blog Types)
Mar 17th
I am sure the readers of DavePCGuy have been wondering about this very long absence of articles. Well, the story is long and tedious but basically, all summed up, it’s because I have had TOO much to do. I’ve come up with an SEO system for my blogs so they get noticed as much as possible (ie. the use of proper plugins, ad placement, stuff like that). I’ve launched some of them but with minimal content.
I’ll be writing an SEO article on my finds later on this week, which will include the proper set up as well as use of those plugins. I’ll also get into editing WordPress themes to suit your needs. Here are a few types of blog themes most people are not aware of. More >
formspring.me
Mar 4th
I have been looking over several new, starting up, social websites. It’s no secret that the best way to get noticed, and the best way to promote oneself is using social networking these days. We all have a facebook, many of us have a facebook GROUP or a FANPAGE made for our blog/company/product and it works well to an extent. I’ve seen blog posts on web promotion recommending the use of stumbleupon, digg, and other popular bookmarking sites.
Here is an interesting new site. Formspring.me has made itself known to me a few months ago when my friends on facebook started posting links to their accounts.
New Projects
Feb 22nd
Sorry about the recent absence of new articles at our site. We have been very busy with numerous new projects. DavePCGuy is shifting into a new world of Web Design. We’re finally moving forward.
I’ve started coding WordPress Themes, and custom websites. It keeps me busy, along with school.
We will be opening up a portfolio site soon, and for that, we’ll have to build up a portfolio (thus the busy-ness).
Well here are some of our projects: More >
RainyMood.com – A design breakdown
Feb 9th
Rainy Mood is a great, and relaxing website. What does it do? It plays a fifteen minute loop of rain OVER and OVER again. That’s it! How simple.
Why am I even bringing this page up? DESIGN!
