Exan’s Corner

Hey, welcome to my own little corner. I’ll post various projects I’m working on as well as finished projects here. You can check out the free PSD template section for some fully-layered goodness, or you can hang around the Scripts section and use my own scripts. I only ask you to include the following header into your scripts:

/* PHP script written by Alexander Janus
contact: alexander@davepcguy.com
blog: http://www.davepcguy.com
if you want to use this script, include this header
*/

If you make any alterations, just mention my name, and that’s all I need :)

Current Projects

Alright, here’s a short list of my current projects. Be sure to check them out.

A Night Story

Now, I try to update this one whenever I get an idea but here’s the concept. It’s a HTML based story with hyperlinks and drop-down menus that contain links to other stories and description of the terms. I used a simple CSS trick to create the boxes.

Right now, I’m working on new backgrounds, the storyline, and the right sidebar. Oh, and I am on my way to creating a PHP guestbook with custom approve/deny comment script. I can’t wait to get that working

Age Tester

Age Tester is my newest project. It’s a web app that compares your and your partner’s age
to see if you two are socially acceptable as a couple. I created a special formula that is REALLY accurate. I even overcame a mathematical instability when the age is below 18 but I can’t get into how exactly I did that.

So, what needs to be done? Well, I need to re-do the web design. It looks like it’s from 1997, and it needs s serious Web 2.0 make-over.

Finished Projects

Actually, I DO have a few projects I’ve already finished and that are in use, or were in use.

GCG Sixes

I launched GCG Sixes recently. Well, I re-launched it several times. The first launch was just a wordpress blog with a modified theme. I could not include my coupon design there, and my custom e-mail script would not work either.

The second launch was just a utilization of my PSD free template that also included my overly confusing, complicated PHP script :) And that worked well. Unfortunately, I am not an expert over XML site-maps, SEO, and all that so without my favorite wordpress plugins, I could not make it work.

The third launch has commenced, and this time, it’s just a simple-looking WordPress template (no modifications done) but it packs a lot of heat behind it in terms of SEO and XML stuff.

Only A Quote

Only A Quote is by far my best work. The design is elegant, simple, and amazing. It’s easy to browse through and let’s just say…it makes me happy :) I even launched a mobile version of the site where you’ll be redirected whenever you use your phone.

What’s amazing about this project is the amount of PHP I had to learn in order to do it. I had to learn how to paginate (for administration purposes and for the masterlist). I had to learn some jQuery and JSON basics to make that tab on the side for submission purposes. And a lot of new CSS to create both the mobile version and the regular version.

To date, I think it’s my most organized piece of work as well. It’s easy to follow (if you ever get a chance to look at the scripts, which you probably won’t) and well-commented. :)

Well, that’s about it. My future plans are to finish that damn contact link and launch a custom themed blog!
